Routine
check - ups and cleans

Just like anything in life, prevention is always better than cure. That’s why it’s important that you stay up to date with your routine dental check-ups and comprehensive cleans. It’s the best way to help prevent tooth decay, gum and periodontal disease, and other oral issues. Should a problem develop and be noticed in its early stages, it will be easier to fix and less expensive to treat. The good news is most oral health issues are preventable with routine check-ups.

Are you due for a dental appointment? We understand that you may be embarrassed or anxious, especially if it’s been a long time in between visits. However, our professional and friendly dentists at Dentists of Ivanhoe will put you right at ease in our inviting clinic.

What happens in a routine dental check-up?

Leave your fears at the door: our dentists will do their best to make you feel comfortable from the moment you step into our clinic to when you sit down in our chair.

Oral examination with your dentist:

Your dentist will examine your mouth, teeth and gums in great detail. They will look for signs of tooth decay, gum disease or any other oral conditions. They will also ask you to bite down to check your jaw joint. In most cases, you may need x-rays for a closer examination of your teeth and jaw.

Professional cleaning stage:

our hygienist will use a dental scaler to remove plaque, hardened tartar and any other build-up that is found between your teeth. Your hygienist may also use a fluoride solution that will ensure gums and teeth are kept healthy between visits.

FAQ

Here are some frequently asked questions to get to know us better.

Even if you have no visible symptoms, you won’t know if there’s an underlying issue until you get it checked out. That’s why it’s important to keep on top of your dental visits. Some of our preventative dentistry services include routine x-rays, teeth cleaning with fluoride treatment and regular oral exams, usually bi-annually.

We recommend that you brush your teeth with a soft bristle toothbrush, in a gentle circular motion for a minimum of two minutes twice a day. You should also floss afterwards. Get into the habit of using mouthwash for good measure. Try to stay away from tobacco and limit your sugar intake. We will demonstrate proper tooth brushing techniques when you visit us.
