TOOTH DECAY
WHAT IS
Tooth Decay?
Tooth decay, also known as dental cavities, occurs when dental plaque, sugar and acids dissolve your enamel and dentine.
Tooth decay, also known as dental cavities, occurs when dental plaque, sugar and acids dissolve your enamel and dentine.
If you feel pain in your teeth, this may be an indication of tooth decay. However, tooth decay can often be pain free until the decay becomes severe. Early detection can help in avoiding the need for more invasive treatment such as root canal treatment and teeth extraction.
The best protection against dental cavities is daily brushing, flossing, using fluoride toothpaste, maintaining a low sugar diet and maintaining routine dental visits (every 6 months).
Regular dental cleans are important to keep up with, as plaque can get trapped in the grooves of your teeth, in between your teeth and in your roots which your at home oral hygiene routine cannot reach.Â
