Dentists of Ivanhoe Central are pleased to welcome Dr. Cathy Cameron to our practice. Cathy is known for her love for her work and genuine care for her patients. Along with her excellent credentials and many years of experience, we know she will be a valuable member of our team.
Dr. Cathy Cameron is an Honours graduate from Sydney University with over 30 years of experience in dental and oral health. After practicing in both Sydney and London for a few years, she moved to Melbourne where she has worked in private practice for the past 25 years. She continues to be a regular guest speaker at Melbourne University for the Bachelor of Oral Health degree.
Cathy has extensive experience with oral and dental health problems, including crown and bridge work and root canal therapies. She especially enjoys working with patients who struggle with dental anxiety. Putting them at ease and helping them overcome their fears is among the most rewarding aspects of dentistry for Cathy.
As more and more knowledge is gained about how oral health impacts general health, Cathy aims to focus on the whole person’s health and well-being. New research continues to find links between gum disease and other health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. In regular check-ups and consultations, she has a comprehensive approach to discover how a patient’s oral health might be affecting their general health and vice versa.
Along with an emphasis on whole-patient care, Cathy strives to help patients address minor concerns in order to prevent more serious oral health problems in the future. For example, the simple habit of clenching of teeth throughout the day can lead to broken teeth later on. Dr. Cathy Cameron says, “Prevention is always better than cure.”
Originally from Geelong, Cathy is a Cats supporter. She is married with two grown-up daughters and delighted to be working close to home. Cathy’s other interests include pursuing further education, walking holidays, bodysurfing, and enjoying her cavoodle dog Lulu.
She enjoys treating patients of all ages, helping them to achieve optimal dental and oral health. Cathy loves working with her patients, so they are happy, healthy and confident to continue attending for regular preventative care.
