Myth: I need to see my dentist every 6 months [ video ]

Transcript:

– Hi, it’s Dr. Shehan from Dentists of Ivanhoe. I wanna talk to you about the myth that you need to see your dentist every six months.

Now, it’s sort of a myth. It really depends on how often you need to see the dentist. The large majority of the population will need to see the dentist every six months to have their teeth checked and cleaned. Whereas the rest of the population may actually need to come and see the dentist every three months or there will be a small proportion who can only needs to see the dentist every 12 months.

This all depends on a large number of factors. And these are all the risk factors that are associated with gum disease or tooth decay, and also how much gum disease or how much decay you have in your mouth. The ability to brush your teeth also has a big role to play in it, such as the elderly or people who have not had the manual dexterity to be able to brush their teeth. Often these people will need to come to see the dentist a bit more regularly.

So, please visit your dentist. Ask your dentist about how often you should be coming, whether it’s three months, four months, six months or 12 months. And then please follow the instructions. Thank you.
