– Hi, it’s Dr. Shehan from Dentists of Ivanhoe, and I want to bust the myth if your gums bleed when you floss, it’s best to leave them alone.
Healthy gums don’t usually bleed when you floss. So if you find that when you’re flossing, that your gums are bleeding, it’s a sign that the gums are inflamed, and it’s a sign that the gums are unhealthy.
That actually means that you should be flossing even more and brushing even more in those areas that are bleeding, and also a sign that you probably need to go see your dentist or your hygienist to get your teeth cleaned, make sure that your gums go back to a nice, healthy state where, when you brush and floss normally, that they don’t bleed.
So it’s a myth, guys. If your gums bleed when you floss, keep flossing, and make a visit to your dentist or your hygienist.
