– Hi, it’s Dr. Shehan from Dentists of Ivanhoe. I’m here today with my daughter Ava, and I want to talk to you a little bit about how to clean their teeth.
Wow. If your toddler is between the ages of 0 and 18 months, it’s best not to use any toothpaste, because they can’t actually spit out, and we don’t want them swallowing any toothpaste. So the easiest way to clean their teeth, is use a piece of cloth or the toothbrush dipped in water. And lift their lip up and then clean their teeth as you would normally.
So I’ll try to do a demonstration today, on how I normally brush my daughter’s teeth.
Now this is how we brush Ava’s teeth every night. We use our toothbrush and a little water, and go now it’s important that we lift your lips so we can see exactly where the teeth are, yes you can have a little bit of the water, that’s it good. Brush brush brush, make sure we get all the teeth, lift the lip up right up there, so that’s a really good trick because when you lift the lip we can see all the teeth, even the back ones right thereover. Wow, you’ve got so many nice teeth! Wow, beautiful, and you only really need to spend about 30 seconds doing this because baby teeth don’t really actually have too much plaque around them. Isn’t that right, Ava? Beautiful! Just have a quick look to make sure you cleaned everything up, and lifting up the lip, that’s the little trick. And I’ve got a little angel over here.
